The disorder tinnitus is more common than you think, affecting as many as more than twenty million Americans. You also have to stay away from caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine which tend to cause a disruption in your nerve function and affect overall health. Use salt in moderation as it tends to increase blood pressure which exacerbates tinnitus. Supplementation with vitamins and minerals especially zinc can also greatly reduce the intensity and frequency of hearing the annoying sound.
- Noise avoidance. Stay away from loud noise. Studies has shown that ninety percent of people found to have tinnitus have some degree of hearing loss caused by constant exposure to loud noise such as blaring music or occupational noise. If you can’t quit your work, try to protect your ears by wearing an earplug or earmuff. In addition, stay away from loud noises such as clubbing music.
- Stress reduction. Stress can compound the problem of tinnitus. It has been reported that people who are under a constant amount of stress have frequent bouts of tinnitus of loud ringing sound. The threshold of people to irritating stimuli is lowered when they are under constant stress. When you are more relaxed, you will be able to successfully control the effects of tinnitus.
Although many of these lifestyle advices have been repeated countless of times sounding like a broken record, people do not hear enough to successfully inculcate them in their activities of daily living.
